Creamy Avocado Ranch Dressing and Dip
If you love a good, homemade ranch dressing, and you love avocados, you'll go crazy for this avocado dressing!
This recipe uses nonfat Greek yogurt in place of the heaps of mayonnaise that usually dominate ranch dressing.
Nothing against ranch or mayonnaise but I have a serious obsession with both, and I need to break up with it sometimes.
If you follow my sneaky techniques with recipes that call for mayo, you know I almost always substitute it with nonfat Greek yogurt...and just a touch of mayo.
Because I feel like I can't give up the crutch, and this combo allows me to feel good about indulging.
Greek yogurt instead of mayonnaise?
Yep, I want the protein and vitamins I get from a heap of yogurt, that I don't get from mayonnaise.
When we use straight mayonnaise, like so many recipes require, we get more calories, fat, and cholesterol than I personally need.
This avocado dressing is the perfect application for this substitute!
Should I use dried spices or fresh herbs for Ranch dressing?
You’ll notice I used dried herbs in this recipe, but I love Ranch with fresh herbs too!
If you use fresh herbs, double the herb amounts in this recipe.
Don't be afraid to experiment. It's forgiving...it's Ranch, after all.

Avocado Ranch recipe tips:
~ Use fresh garlic, not garlic powder. It's more authentic to ranch dressing.
~ Don't use overripe avocados b/c it won't look as pretty and will turn faster.
~ Feel free to adjust the yogurt to mayonnaise ratio to fit your dietary needs.
~ Turn this dressing into a gorgeous dip by omitting the milk.

My husband made this for me the other night. I had never eaten an avocado in my life and Im 69! lol I tell you, this is the best stuff I have ever eaten. You can use this as a chip dip, sandwich spread instead of mayo or mustard, on a baked potato.....LOVE IT!!!!
Traci says
Yay! I'm so glad you're enjoying it. Thank you for the feedback and welcome to the avocado club!
Julio says
I know I’m a little late to the party but you can use almond milk for this recipe. Cows is not readily available. Has anyone used almond milk before? Thank you.
Traci says
Hi Julio, you can use any milk you like for this recipe. Thanks and enjoy!!
Sparran says
It was very tasty and I doubled the recipe because I knew it wouldn't last long. I was all out of whole avocado's so I used my premade avocado spread. All it had was lime juice and garlic and cumin. Although, there wasn't a lot of cumin in it and I couldn't taste it in the avocado ranch dressing. Really, really good. Will stick to this recipe from now on. I don't see why this would only be good for 5 days. As long as you keep it in the fridge, nothing in this will go bad?
The Kitchen Girl says
Nice! I'm so glad you enjoyed it and great idea to use the spread 🙂 As for the 5 days, it's a food storage standard. Any wiggle room beyond that is totally at your discretion. Thanks for taking the time to leave feedback...much appreciated!
Karine says
Can I use frozen avocados with this recipe?
The Kitchen Girl says
I haven't tried it so I'm not sure how it will look or taste. Let me know if you end up trying it out. Enjoy!
Bren says
Sounds delicious. Going to make it in just a minute. So glad I found you
The Kitchen Girl says
Great to hear it 🙂 Hope you enjoyyy!
Jessica says
Used oat milk and tasted light and refreshing. Used extra fresh herbs and more salt, will probably add a bit more lemon juice to freshen up for leftovers. Thanks!
The Kitchen Girl says
Perfect, Jessica! Yes, avocado ranch is very versatile like that. Glad you enjoyed and thanks for the feedback!
Jeannine says
My son-in-law made this recipe for our fish tacos this evening. It was delicious. We didn't change anything and will definitely use it again. I'd also like to try it without the avocado as a ranch dressing.
The Kitchen Girl says
Awesome, Jeannine! I'm so glad to hear it! I happen to have a Greek yogurt ranch dressing you can check out. Thanks for taking the time to offer feedback. I appreciate it
JB says
Ok, just had this avocado ranch on your baked chicken wings and it was the perfect flavor combo. Can't wait to do that all over again! Thanks KG
The Kitchen Girl says
Awesome! I'm so glad you're enjoying them and looking forward to more. Such a compliment ... thanks!
Cassandra says
I've been looking for something just like this, but would like a little more convenience - do you think I could substitute premade ranch seasoning for the herbs in this recipe?
The Kitchen Girl says
Yep, you could totally do that. You can adjust the Ranch seasoning to your taste. If the dressing feels too thick, just add splashes of liquid to adjust it. Enjoy!
Sherry says
Could I freeze part of this dressing as it will be hard for me to eat all of this within 5 days?
The Kitchen Girl says
Hi Sherry, I've never tried to freeze it. I'm sure you can, but I can't promise it will be pretty when it thaws. You can definitely cut this recipe in half though 🙂
