Creamy Avocado Ranch Dressing and Dip
I’m so glad that avocado salad dressing is a thing!
I realize it’s been a thing for a while now, but I remember when avocado’s primary use was for making guacamole.
Times have changed…along with things like ranch dressing.
Let’s see, traditional Ranch dressing tends to be mostly mayo-based.
Nothing against ranch or mayo, but I have a serious mayo obsession!
If you follow my sneaky techniques with recipes that call for mayo, you know I almost always substitute it with nonfat Greek yogurt…and just a touch of mayo.
Because I feel like I can’t give up the crutch…it’s that flavor and texture that get me every time!
Why substitute yogurt for mayo?
Because I want the protein and vitamins I get from a heap of yogurt, that I won’t get from mayonnaise.
This Avocado dressing is the perfect application for this substitute!
If I use all mayo, like so many recipes require, I’m getting more calories, fat, and cholesterol than I care to eat.
I love mayo btw…but I love fitting into my jeans even more!
So, we leave use more yogurt than mayo, but you’re welcome to keep this little secret when you serve up this avocado dressing.
We also get a bunch of new ways to use Avocado Ranch Dressing and Dip:
- salad dressing

- sandwich spread
- pasta salad dressing
- french fry dip
Homemade Ranch dip (that’s more like a dip than a dressing):
If you like a thicker consistency in your Ranch dip, as opposed to a dressing consistency, simply leave out the milk in this recipe.
Boom! You’ll have homemade Ranch dip that’s just as sexy as guacamole, only not quite as expensive since you’re using yogurt in place of avocados to create it.
A few notes about the ingredients for Avocado Ranch:
I recommend using fresh garlic and not substituting garlic powder, if you can.
Because truly delicious, homemade Ranch has that very subtle hint of the spice you can only get from fresh garlic.
Trust me on this one…you’ll actually have people guessing what it is!

You’ll notice I used dried herbs in this recipe, but I love Ranch with fresh herbs too!
If you use fresh herbs, double the herbs in this recipe, but don’t be afraid to experiment…it’s forgiving…it’s Ranch, after all.
