Air fryer mushrooms are game changer for mushroom fans! They're easy to prep with hands-off frying, and we hardly call it effort. The end result is so tender and juicy that, if air fried mushrooms were the only thing you ever made in your air fryer, it would still be worth it to own one.
The prep is as simple as lightly coating the mushrooms with oil and a few seasonings. After that, the mushrooms air fry in no time at all. They turn out so juicy and delectable, you'll be shocked at how little oil they require with this method.
Lets just say our entrees never tasted better when served alongside garlic glittered air fryer mushrooms. We've also leveled up our healthy snack game. The only competition these mushrooms face is when we make air fryer asparagus, so we often end up serving them together, which I highly recommend.
Key ingredients
Recipe amounts are included in the printable recipe below.
mushrooms - Use any button mushroom variety for this recipe. I recommend using smaller whole mushrooms OR cutting larger mushrooms into bite-sized pieces. I like this size because they cook quickly and evenly.
olive oil - You can use preferred oil or melted butter for air fried mushrooms. My go-to is extra virgin olive oil or avocado oil spray.
seasonings - My go-to is this lightning fast seasoning combo of garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Air fried mushrooms are so versatile though, you can use any seasonings you like. There are no rules for this recipe.
How to air fry mushrooms
Recipe instructions are included in the printable recipe below.
- Chop mushrooms in half (or leave whole) and toss with oil and seasonings.
2. Spread in a single layer in the air fryer basket.
3. Air fry mushrooms at a temperature range of 380°F to 400°F for 5 minutes or more until the texture is to your liking.
Note: Depending on your fryer, you may need to shake the basket halfway through to promote even browning on the surface.
4. Serve warm garnished with chopped parsley.
Recipe tips
- Preheating - I don't preheat my 5.8 quart air fryer because it heats so quickly, but I always preheat my larger Instant Omni air fryer oven.
- Oil - Air fried mushrooms actually do require oil, but not much! Go easy at first and add more as needed.
- For crispier mushrooms - Leave ample space between the mushrooms in the AF basket and cook them until they have crisped to your liking, shaking as needed.
- Temperature setting - I recommend an air fryer heat setting between 380°F to 400°F. The higher temperature cooks them faster, so keep that in mind.
- How long to air fry mushrooms - This can take between 5 to 15 minutes at said temperatures. The actual time will depend on the mushroom size and your texture preference.
- Shake the basket? - You may or may not need to shake the basket for every AF recipe. It really depends on how your particular model distributes heat.
Serving ideas
There are so many ways to serve air fryer mushrooms! I love them as a side dish with a juicy NY strip or tender broiled salmon. I also love adding them to chicken alfredo right before serving. So good!

Air fryer mushrooms really are game changer! We never ate as many mushrooms before we had an air fryer. They're just too easy to toss in oil and seasonings, and zip zip, done! Another winner KG!
