Mushrooms in the air fryer are game changer! It's the quickest mushroom side dish for dinner or healthy anytime snack. Just like air fryer asparagus and garlicky roasted mushrooms, air fryer mushrooms use very little oil, yet turn out super juicy and delicious. They're great with air fryer whole chicken or pan fried pork chops. They can even share the basket space with air fryer pork tenderloin if timed properly. It's a two-fer!
Key ingredients
Recipe amounts are included in the printable recipe below.
mushrooms - Use any button mushroom variety for this recipe. I recommend using smaller whole mushrooms OR cutting larger mushrooms into bite-sized pieces. I like this size because they cook quickly and evenly.
olive oil - You can use preferred oil or melted butter for air fried mushrooms. My go-to is extra virgin olive oil or avocado oil spray.
seasonings - My go-to is this lightning fast seasoning combo of garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Air fried mushrooms are so versatile though, you can use any seasonings you like. There are no rules for this recipe.
How to air fry mushrooms
Recipe instructions are included in the printable recipe below.
- Chop mushrooms in half (or leave whole) and toss with oil and seasonings.
2. Spread in a single layer in the air fryer basket.
3. Air fry mushrooms at a temperature range of 380°F to 400°F for 5 minutes or more until the texture is to your liking.
Note: Depending on your fryer, you may need to shake the basket halfway through to promote even browning on the surface.
4. Serve air fryer mushrooms warm garnished with chopped parsley.
Recipe tips
- Preheating - I don't preheat my 5.8 quart air fryer because it heats so quickly, but I always preheat my larger Instant Omni air fryer oven.
- Oil - Air fryer mushrooms actually do require oil, but not much! Go easy at first and add more as needed.
- For crispier mushrooms - Leave ample space between the mushrooms in the AF basket and cook them until they have crisped to your liking, shaking as needed.
- Temperature setting - Air fried mushrooms thrive anywhere between 380°F to 400°F in your air fryer. The higher temperature cooks them faster, so keep that in mind.
- How long to air fry mushrooms - Air frying mushrooms can take between 5 to 15 minutes at said temperatures. The actual time will depend on your texture preferences.
- Shake the basket? - You may or may not need to shake the basket for every AF recipe. It really depends on how your particular model distributes heat.
How to serve air fryer mushrooms
So many ways! I love them as a mushroom side dish with any protein entree like chicken, steak, or salmon. I also love adding them to my chicken alfredo right before serving. So good! Air fryer mushrooms next to crispy air fryer Brussels sprouts with garlic aioli make a great game day appetizer or anytime snack!

Air fryer mushrooms really are game changer! We never ate as many mushrooms before we had an air fryer. They're just too easy to toss in oil and seasonings, and zip zip, done! Another winner KG!
